Bout of Books 5.0 Wrap Up

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon

As the weekend closes, I’ll share my last update and wrap up for Bout of Books 5.0 read-a-thon. Since Fridays and Saturdays are our family days, I spend as much time reading as I wanted to. Sort of. I enjoyed our family time together. I also got some time to myself and went shopping, though not for books.

Though I didn’t finish reading  An Echo Through the Snow, I got to hang out with my friend Sandie of Teen Lit Rocks. We talked books like we always do, and I feared I might have ruined  Seating Arrangements by Maggie Shipstead for her.

My goal for Bout of Books was to finish 2 books (my kids’ books don’t count) and meet new to me book bloggers by commenting on their blogs and joining a twitter chat. I didn’t finish 2 books but I did meet a lot of fun people on Twitter and through their blogs. Hi everyone!

Final tally:

Total books read: 1 and 1/2 just for me books, at least 2 kids chapter books
Total pages read:  558
Blogs I left comments on: 21 plus whatever I get to before midnight
Challenges participated: 4

I just got a huge stack of books in to vet as selections for our book club members, so I better get cracking!

How did you do in Bout of Books or what did you read this weekend?

A Teeny Bit of Reading: Bout of Books Day 3 Update

My Wednesday progress was a bit slower than Tuesday’s reading. That’s because I was a good mom today and took my kids to the park. Thank goodness for slightly cooler weather! I also took them to the library which meant I got to read a bunch of kids’ books. I’m glad my kids love books as much as I do.

I started reading An Echo Through the Snow by Andrea Thalasinos, but I’m still a bit hungover from finishing Seating Arrangements by Maggie Shipstead. You know what I mean? My head is still in the previous book. Trying to shed those characters to make room for new ones is tricky. Plus An Echo in the Snow alternates between past and present. It takes me a few chapters to adjust.

I also survived hosting my first From Left to Write Twitter chat. It was a bunch of fun and we talked about sexy characters in literature we’d like to be stranded on an island with. Who would you pick?

I”m not sure how my Thursday will go.  I know I’ll be reading more stories from my daughter’s latest Rainbow Magic Fairy anthology: Gabriella: The Snow Kingdom Fairy.

Wednesday Update

Books read: part of Gabriella: The Snow Kindgom Fairy and part of An Echo in the Snow
Pages read: 69
Blogs I left comments on: 8, more than my daily 5 to make up for yesterday’s lack of comments
Challenges participated: I failed horribly at the Zombie bookcover quiz and aced the word search!

Total books read: 2 and part of 2 books
Total pages read:  448

A Bump in Bout of Books Progress: Day 2 Update

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon

I feel a bit behind in my Bout of Books read-a-thon, but that’s only because I got rear ended yesterday and fell asleep at 9pm-highly unusual for me. I did finish reading  Seating Arrangements by Maggie Shipstead. A chain of events occurred right after I wrote yesterday’s update that made me more interested in the story. I’m still lukewarm about it.

During my son’s nap time I was able to visit and leave 2 comments on other Bout of Books bloggers. I’m keeping a tally in my planner. I will try to make up the difference today.

I’m also really excited about my Twitter chat today with Alma Katsu, author of The Taker and The Reckoning! I hope you can join me this evening at 9PM Eastern. For more details and to see what prizes you might win, check out the chat info.

Today I’m starting a new book, An Echo Through the Snow by Andrea Thalasinos, but I’m not tied to it. If I can’t get into, I think I’ll pick up one of the others. I have two library books on hold that I’m waiting until the weekend to read because I know I won’t be able to put it down.

Tuesday Update

Books read: 1/2
Pages read: 162
Blogs I left comments on: 2

Total books read: 2
Total pages read:  379

Joining Bout of Books Read-a-Thon

This past weekend I finished 2 books. Which is how many books I’d love to read a week. I’m sure 2 books in one weekend was a fluke. I just discovered the Bout of Books Read-a-thon from Jayla of Lady Blue Jay. It looks like a great way to meet some new bloggers and cross a couple of books off my list.

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon

Bout of Books starts tomorrow 8/13 and runs until Sunday, 8/19.  For this week, here’s what I hope to accomplish:

Goals:

  • Comment on at least 5 participating blogs a day
  • Read and/or finish at least 2 books. I have a couple of books that I’m less than 80 pages in. They’ve been languishing on my desk for a while. Time to finish them! I’ll probably sneak in reading time throughout the day as I’m wrangling my kids
  • Connect with those participating via the #boutofbooks hashtag on Twitter
My Book List (in no particular order). I may not read all of these but I’m a Libra, I like having choices.
Updates: I’ll share most of my reading progress on Twitter and Goodreads. I’ll try to do at least one mid-week and one at towards the end of the read-a-thon to update you all on my progress.
Will you join me? While you’re here, I hope you’ll join me for our first From Left to Write Twitter chat. You can even win prizes, just RSVP!
