Some news from PBS Parents:
The PBS Parents and iVillage Summer Reading Challenge has kicked off! If you’re unfamiliar, the Challenge is an online program to encourage parents and kids to read together this summer. Hosted by iVillage, the Challenge features free research-based literacy-building resources for parents and children designed by the experts at PBS Parents and PBS KIDS. To sweeten the deal, all PBS KIDS Summer Reading Challenge participants receive 40% off one kids book at Barnes & Noble.com. Now through the end of July, log on (http://challenges.ivillage.com/pbs-challenge) to take the challenge & help prevent summer brain drain!
PBS KIDS was awarded 15 Daytime Emmy Awards last week– more than any other broadcast or cable channel. Recognized programs include favorites such as The Electric Company, Curious George, and Sesame Street. The nods mark the 13th consecutive year PBS won more awards for children’s programming than anyone else – quite an accomplishment!
Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post. We are simply on PBS Parents’ blogger list and wanted to share this summer reading news.

What a great idea! I was bummed about being late for the Hicklebee’s but I just signed my son and I up for this challenge!
What a great opportunity to encourage literacy in our own homes! Thanks to PBS and iVillage.
