Book Review: SECRET by L. Marie Adeline

SECRET by L Marie Adeline

With the popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey, the stigma of reading erotica is starting to fade. At least more people are willing to admit to reading novels with hot explicit sex scenes. Have you been wondering what to read next?

The new novel S.E.C.R.ET. by L. Marie Adeline will not disappoint readers of erotica. Readers can live vicariously through protagonist Carrie as she goes through her checklist of sexual fantasies. In  S.E.C.R.ET., Carrie is induced into a secret society that aims to empower women by fulfilling all of their sexual desires, with no strings attached of course.

Each fantasy that Carrie completes earns her a charm on her special bracelet. Each act gives her more confidence, not just in the bedroom, but in life. Instead of just stumbling mindlessly from home to work and back again, Carrie rediscovers herself and feels a sense of purpose again.

So what about the sex scenes? Some of them are steamy while others are too fantastical for me to believe. I won’t tell you too much because it’ll spoil the moment for you. BUT (SPOILER ALERT) I just couldn’t believe the scene with the famous rap star named Shawn. That’s all I’ll say about that.

I was excited about the premise of  S.E.C.R.ET. I mean, an erotic novel where the woman is in charge of her fantasies and sexual exploration? Sign me up! However, I just couldn’t connect with Carrie. I wanted to know more about what made her tick and her emotional and mental reactions after each of her rendezvous.

The novel is set right smack dab in New Orleans, which gives the novel some charm and sensuality. I have a pet peeve about novels set in New Orleans: when terms like “county” versus “parish” are used incorrectly. I think a little research would easily reveal that tidbit of info.

If you’re looking for steamy, no strings attached sex scenes, then  S.E.C.R.ET. by L. Marie Adeline is for you. If you’re looking for erotica with steamy sex and a great story, I recommend anything edited by Susie Bright.

Just finished reading S.E.C.R.E.T and enjoyed it. As far as Cassie’s fantasies go, they were created by the imagination of the writer. I wasn’t analyzing this book. It’s a story, just that and I think some women out there could actually relate to the main character, Cassie! I’m looking forward to the next book to see where her journey takes her….
