As spring teases us with warm days and sneaks in a windy, chilly day to remind you that it’s not quite summer. Spring is my favorite season, not just because I’m tired of feeling cold and wearing layers, but because I can spend more time outdoors. For Patricia Ellis Herr and her daughters, cold or hot weather doesn’t keep them from hiking up the mountains of New Hampshire. Her book Up: A Mother and Daughter’s Peakbagging Adventure chronicles then 5 year old Alex’s journey to “bag” all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000+ foot mountains.
