With the recent polar winds that froze most of the United States last month, I was glad to travel to tropical Burma as our book club read A Well-Tempered Heart by Jan-Philipp Sendker (Other Press). From Left to Write members read Sendker’s previous novel The Art of Hearing Heartbeats in 2012 and we were happy to revisit Julia and her brother U Ba again. On a whim, Julia quits her job at a law firm to visit her brother in Burma and discover the story that the voice in her head is trying to tell her.
See what personal stories A Well-Tempered Heart inspired our book club members to share with you:

Thanks. nice to think about tropical places when we’re so cold.

I did love this book and the way the author elaborated on the sights and sounds of the country. It will be interesting to see how they handle the increase in tourism and the development of natural resources. Many countries are knocking on their doors.
Your style is very unique compared to other people I’ve read stuff from.
Many thanks for posting when you’ve got the opportunity, Guess I’ll just
book mark this blog.
