Blogalicious 2013 Book Smarts Panel Recap

Blogalicious5 Book Smarts Panelists

This past weekend at Blogalicious, I joined authors Tracy Beckerman (middle above) and Robin O’Bryant to share our knowledge about

  • self-publishing vs traditional publishing
  • how to find an agent
  • how to use your social network to market your book
  • virtual book tour
  • contacting book bloggers
  • and lots more!

Our fifty minutes flew by and there was still plenty of information to share. I think the main takeaway is to discover what your goal is for publishing a book. It’s not a small undertaking and your ultimate goal will help determine what platform will work for it and how you will market it. I also learned that a lot of people want to write and publish a book!

Robin and Tracy's Books

I was very honored to be on the panel with Tracy Beckerman, author of Lost in Suburbia: A Momoir, and Robin O’Bryant, author of Ketchup is a Vegetable: And Other Lies Moms Tell Themselves. Tracy has experience in self-publishing and traditional publishing. Robin self-published Ketchup is a Vegetable  and was recently picked up  by St. Martin’s Press. I shared my experience as a book blogger and head of the From Left to Write book club. As you can see, we all had plenty to share.

While we don’t have slides of our presentation, Robin put a  FAQ page for writers  with lots of great resources. Make sure you bookmark it!

Thanks to everyone who came to our session! If you have any questions that we didn’t have a chance to address, leave a comment with it.
